Abstract: Railway stations are intricate, multi-level public transportation environments encompassing platforms, foot over bridges (FOBs), concourses, ticket counters, waiting halls, restrooms, food plazas, parcel offices, and emergency services. While stations serve millions of passengers daily, navigating these dense transit hubs remains challenging due to visual clutter in conventional signage, multi-floor architectural barriers, complex circulation flows, and the complete attenuation of Global Positioning System (GPS) signals within indoor and covered shed structures. This research presents an advanced software application architecture for indoor railway station navigation that integrates a topological digital station map, facility search with synonym expansion, multi-source indoor positioning fusion (QR codes, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons, Wi-Fi fingerprinting, and smartphone inertial sensors), graph-theoretic route planning (Dijkstra’s and A* algorithms), turn-by-turn voice and visual guidance, universal accessibility routing, emergency evacuation assistance, and administrative facility management. The architecture adopts a three-stage incremental lifecycle model, maintaining operational continuity while progressively deploying spatial digitization, sensor fusion, and dynamic crowdsourced updates. An empirical baseline analysis of transit wayfinding reveals that unassisted passengers spend between 6 to 14 minutes searching for platforms and essential amenities in major junction stations, with over 32% of passenger delays and missed connections stemming from navigational confusion at multi-level junctions.
