Abstract: The Flavonoids naturally occurring plant pigments, natural polyphenols are secondary metabolites and are interesting class of phytochemicals due to their pharmacological properties. The potency of different class of flavonoids in medicinal uses are attributed to their chemical structures. The basic structure is a Diphenyl propane skeleton in which two benzene rings are linked by a chain of three carbon which forms a closed pyran ring. The substitution pattern and nature of substituents decide the potency of flavonoids against a particular disease and make them an interesting class of phytochemicals.
