Abstract: Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) has become a highly transformative technology with the capacity to reshape teaching and learning in schools and other educational institutions. Since it can facilitate intelligent content generation, adaptive learning, automated assessment, and personalized instructional support, Generative AI provides numerous opportunities for improving the quality of education, increasing learner engagement, and boosting instructional efficiency. This paper gives a critical look at the effect of Generative AI on teaching and learning by looking at its applications, advantages, challenges, and future potential in the education sector. The study looks at major opportunities such as personalized learning, intelligent tutoring, content creation, and collaborative learning environments, while also tackling important issues like algorithmic opacity, explainability, data privacy and security, bias and fairness, academic integrity, and the reliability of content produced by AI. The paper also examines ways of responsibly introducing Generative AI by creating transparent and ethical AI frameworks, establishing strong data governance mechanisms, setting up appropriate regulatory policies, and using high-quality training datasets. It stresses the need to give teachers the necessary AI skills through ongoing professional development so that they can effectively incorporate AI-based teaching methods. Lastly, the study highlights some of the new trends in AI-driven education, such as intelligent tutoring systems, immersive virtual learning environments, adaptive assessment, and collaborative human– AI learning ecosystems. The results show that although Generative AI offers great potential for enhancing educational accessibility, personalization, and learning outcomes, its successful implementation relies on ethical governance, responsible use, and continued cooperation between educators, researchers, policymakers, and technology developers.
