Abstract: Solar energy is now one of a major source of energy, which is clean and environmental friendly. The challenge arises to convert solar energy into useful energy using devices. These devices have low conversion efficiency. The seasonal and diurnal movement of earth affects the radiation falling on solar collectors. Sun tracking devices move these collectors to compensate the motion of the earth and maintain the best orientation with respect to sun. In this paper, we have discussed about different tracking systems and their theoretical gain as compared to fixed horizontal system by considering a location as Delhi (?=28.6o North).

Keywords: solar energy, sun tracking, sunpath, azimuth, gain, cosine.
