DOI: 10.17148/IARJSET.2017.4101
Abstract: In recent years, restrictions have been established in many areas of the world against the most dominant oil base mud; (diesel). These restrictions came about as a result of the detrimental environmental impact occurring from the use of this drilling fluid. Hence a worldwide trend was brought about, disregarding the use of this mud in drilling operations onshore and significantly offshore where the environmental impact was higher. Oil base mud now faces restrictions of recently passed legislations that require specific disposal methods that are regarded extremely costly. This is forcing the industry to shift away from its use as it is becoming less feasible to operate with. Hence, the need for an integrated alternative solution to oil base mud that will pass the recent environmental regulations thus removing disposal costs and lowering the overall toxicity. Of these solutions, biodegradable oils, particularly vegetable oils have been the focus of many recent researchers. The selection of these oils is based on their low costs of obtaining these oils and concurrently having similar properties of oil base mud. Jatropha oil base mud shows high potentialdue to its abundance worldwide. The laboratory data indicate that Jatropha oil base mud has a more ideal yield point value than diesel base mud, theprepared jatropha base mud will perform the same function as dieselbase mud, but more efficiently with less frictional pressure losses. The experimental work carried out showed high potential of jatropha oil base in comparison to oil base in both physiochemical and rheological properties as an oil and drilling fluid, better thermal stability in HPHT wells, safe due to its fire capacity resistance. Finally jatropha is less expensive than oil base mud with less environmental impact and can be applied in the industry.

DOI: 10.17148/IARJSET.2017.4102
Abstract: With the demand for energy continues to grow globally, there is a need to make heat transfer equipment more energy efficient. At one hand, the exponential growth of electronics, communication and computer technology and their choice to go for miniaturization has put added pressure on the designer to create efficient thermal management devices for these systems. Particularly thermal conductivity of a fluid plays a vital role in the development of energy-efficient heat transfer equipment. An innovative idea is to suspend nano-sized solid particles in the fluid to improve heat transfer characteristics of the fluid. Nanofluids are the suspension of nanometer-sized particles in base fluids such as water and ethylene glycol. In convective heat transfer, number of other factors along with thermal conductivity affects heat transfer performance, so careful examination of convective heat transfer using nanofluid is required. For optimum condition of nanofluids, some experimentation is required for better result. As experimentation is time consuming process, nanofluids are analyzed by using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) approach. This approach has attracted the attention of researchers in the past decade, though the mechanism is not fully understood yet. So in this work, a systematic computational fluid dynamic investigation of Al2O3/water nanofluid with different volume fraction by varying Reynolds number and constant wall temperature boundary condition has been carried out adopting single phase and two phase approach and the results are compared with experimental results and theoretical correlations. Both the single phase and two phase models results show a good agreement with experimental data and theoretical correlations but two phase model gives prediction of heat transfer rate compared to the single phase model.

Abstract: Increasing competition and innovation in automobile sector tends to modify the existing products by new and advanced material products. A suspension system of vehicle is also an area where these innovations are carried out regularly. Leaf springs are one of the oldest suspension components that are being still used widely in automobiles. Weight reduction is also given due to importance by automobile manufacturers. The automobile industry has shown increased interest in the use of composite leaf spring in the place of conventional steel leaf spring due to its high strength to weight ratio. This work deals with replacement of conventional steel leaf spring of a light commercial vehicle with composite leaf spring using Carbon/Epoxy. Dimensions of the composite leaf spring are to be taken as same dimensions of the conventional leaf spring. The objective is to compare the load carrying capacity, stresses, deflection and weight savings of composite leaf spring with that of steel leaf spring.

DOI: 10.17148/IARJSET.2017.4108
Abstract: This paper describes a new voltage source inverter (VSI) referred to as a BOOST INVERTER or boost DC-AC converter. The main attribute of the new inverter topology is the fact that it generates an ac output voltage larger than the dc input one, depending on the instantaneous duty cycle. This property is not found in the classical VSI, which produces an ac output instantaneous voltage always lower than the dc input one. For the purpose of optimizing the boost inverter dynamics, while ensuring correct operation in any working condition, a sliding mode controller is proposed. This new inverter is intended to be used in uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and ac driver systems design whenever an ac voltage larger than the dc link voltage is needed, with no need of a second power conversion stage (SPCS). This boost inverter topology generates an AC voltage which is larger than that of the input DC voltage in a single stage conversion.

Abstract: Daylight is one of the important factors improving the quality of lifestyle and efficient building ergonomics. There are many software and websites, which provide us stereographic projections of any region at any geographical locations. These charts support us to understand solar azimuth and solar altitude angle and generate shadow angles at any specific time and month of the year. The selected study area is Hyderabad, India and the conclusions derived are the dimensions of horizontal shading devices as sunshades. The aim of this study is to derive and set standard horizontal shade devices in cardinal directions and inter-cardinal directions, which can provide shade for the window without allowing any direct sunlight to enter the building in selected site region. The limitation considered is the azimuth angle, which is to be a minimum and maximum angle for any month in every particular cardinal and inter-cardinal direction, and the altitude angle is considered minimum angle in the duration of 9:00 to 16:00 hours from the year 2016. This horizontal shading device would guide a metropolitan city to implement efficient shading device.

DOI: 10.17148/IARJSET.2017.4122
Abstract: In this paper proposed result analysis of control scheme for a stand-alone wind energy conversion system. Wind energy conversion system (WECS) is nowadays deployed for meeting both grid-connected and stand-alone load demands. However, wind flow by nature is intermittent. In order to ensure continuous supply of power suitable storage technology is used as backup. In this paper, the sustainability of a 4-kW hybrid of wind and battery system is investigated for meeting the requirements of a 3-kW stand-alone dc load representing a base telecom station. Present energy want greatly depends on the quality sources. But the inadequate accessibility and steady increase inside the value of typical sources has shifted the main focus toward renewable sources of energy.

DOI: 10.17148/IARJSET.2017.4126
Abstract: A stepped spillway is a spillway with steps on the spillway chute to assist in the dissipation of the kinetic energy of the descending water. This reduces size or eliminates the need for an additional energy dissipator on downstream side. The energy dissipation depends upon the step height and discharge. In this study effect of number of steps and discharge on energy dissipation were studied using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach. Effect of number of steps and discharge was evaluated for nappe flow conditions. This study shows that as number of steps are increased the energy dissipation decreases and also increase in discharge results in the decrease in energy dissipation under nappe flow.

A NEW APPROACH TO DEFINING INNOVATIVE AND TECHNICAL ACTIVITIES
Praveenkumar A. V
DOI: 10.17148/IARJSET.2017.4129
Abstract: The basic thesis of this research is that innovation systems have a significant role in determining technological evolution. The formation of a new innovation system and changes in current innovation systems are described as co-evolving with the process of technological change. As a result, greater understanding of the dynamics of innovation systems is required. Traditional innovation system analysis methodologies, which primarily focus on the structure of innovation systems, have proven insufficient. As a result, we suggest a framework that focuses on a number of processes that are critical for high-performing innovation systems. These procedures are known as 'innovation system functions.'. We present a way for comprehensively mapping the processes that occur in innovation systems and result in technological progress after describing this framework and embedding it in current literature. This method is known as process analysis or history event analysis. Exemplifications are drawn from the empirical field of Sustainable Technology Development. We shall present A New Approach to Defining Innovative and Technical Activities in this paper.
